Contains mild spoilers... This is an intense read. It's the sequel to The Last Thing You See, but it can definitely be read on it's own. If you read the first book, you understand some of Christie's background better although I think that the heartache is all the more poignant for it. This was such a hard book to read-not because the abuse was graphic, it wasn't but because you live the heartache and the grief as well as the hurt of healing with her. Healing does hurt and I think it hurts more than one thinks or realizes and Ms. South helps us live through that hurt and healing. But Christie heals and by the end, she has hope. I still hurt for all she lost (which is silly since she was only a book character-that is what makes Ms. South such a great author),yet that hope gives me hope. I wouldn't mind a glimpse years from where the story ended to see how her life is. I want to see her with Dean and their kids and how her relationship with Nick and Harper evolves, because after everything, I really hope they get to stay close and become friends all over again. Of course that is what I speculate and hope for- just one more chapter to round it off and give this reader her final closure.Does have one sex scene and some language used appropriately but still there.Read in almost one sitting due to needing to make sure Christie turned out OK. Ms. South is an exceptionally talented author and you truly feel you know the characters and you feel their emotions.
