First- DO NOT start with this novel. This is a series that really needs to be read from the beginning. If you do not do this, the resolutions might well look arbitrary, while in context they are not at all arbitrary.That being said- I was anxious to read it, having loved the previous 2 novels- the plots and the characters, and also the philosophical underpinnings... because OH YEAH there are philosophical underpinnings here!And while in general I dislike "deus ex machina" as a plot device... if the whole series has gods and demons and angels and all, then it just become part of the territory, and fair enough. I found it very enjoyable here.And- I also like the trope of "unintended consequences", and Hughes here does one of the best jobs of this I've read lately.It's a great series, and an excellent conclusion in this book!
